Vegetarian Benefits

Benefits of Becoming a VegetarianMaking the decision to become a vegetarian can be a big lifestyle decision to make, and therefore should not be taken lightly. However, the thought of cutting meat from your diet should not be seen as chore or something that should be hard to commit to. If you do have these feelings as you are transitioning to vegetarianism, then a good idea is to set your focus on the positive changes and benefits you will experience as a result. Here we will discuss three of these benefits.

Vegetarian Meal Preparation with Less Fuss

One of the big benefits that we personally found when transitioning to vegetarian is that there is a lot less fuss and time needed to create a healthy, nutritional vegetable dish. There are so many easy to use recipes that are not only highly nutritious, but also great tasting! We have shared a few of our favorite recipes here.

You will start to find your grocery bill decreases. Vegetables alone are far less expensive than a tray of meat from your butchers. A handy trick we use is to go to the local farmers market each week to stock up on veggies. When they are in season, vegetables from local markets cost a fraction of what you can find even in your local supermarket. Another trick is to stock up on fruit and certain vegetables while they are in season and freeze for later.

With the money that you save, you could always put this aside to save for a special treat to reward yourself for the positive changes you have made in your life.

Easier Digestion of Vegetarian Food

Did you know that it is hard work for your stomach to process and digest meat? When you eat meat this will typically stay stagnant in your stomach for long periods of time while your body tries to break it does. Sounds great doesn’t it! This will cause your body to feel sluggish and tired as the energy that would otherwise be used to keep you going, is being used to break down the meat.

Vegetables on the other hand are very easy for the body to digest and will pass through your intestines with ease. This places a lot less strain on your body, and it will eventually reward you for this. Particularly when you eat leafy green vegetables, this will act like a broom to sweep your insides fresh and clean, which will assist to eliminate toxins that have been building in your body over time.

If you have not eaten meat for a while, you may typically find that if you do try to eat it again you will notice a difference in the way your body reacts – from feeling tired or drained, unable to sleep well, to even feeling sick or nauseous. Remember these feelings you experience feeling next time you have a craving to eat a dish including meat.

Improved Health with Vegetarian Lifestyle

The majority of people who convert to vegetarianism do so for the health benefits, and rightly so. Typically, as already discussed, our bodies are not well equipped to digest the heaviness of meat, and this therefore strains the digestion system.

Studies over time have shown that many health problems can be traced to the high consumption of meat. From a variety of negative impacts ranging from the high levels of acidity in meat through to high cholesterol. The impact of this places an enormous strain on your body which unfortunately results in many health ailments. Typically vegetarians do not suffer from these same types of illnesses and live a positive and healthy lifestyle.

Do not be fooled however, even though you are eating vegetarian still means you must eat a healthy diet. A diet of highly process foods, such as chips, chocolate, biscuits etc. does not constitute a healthy lifestyle. Your vegetarian diet should consist of a range of fresh fruits, vegetables, even grains, beans and nuts etc.

The health benefit of a vegetarian are vast and cover far more than what is listed here. The benefits to your health, environment, and society, along with both moral and ethical benefits are sure to make you stand up and be proud of this adopted lifestyle.
